Data processing through social networks
Rodenstock GmbH (Elsenheimerstrasse 33, 80687 Munich; further referred to as “Rodenstock”) is responsible for the content of the Rodenstock social media channels on the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter.
In the following, we provide information on how Rodenstock processes personal data that is collected when you visit our social media pages.
Scope and purpose of the processing of personal data
When one of Rodenstock’s social media pages is visited, we, as the creator of the social media page, process user’s actions on and interactions with our social media page (e.g., the content of messages, request, posts or comments sent to us or left on our social media pages or when our posts are liked or shared) as well as publicly visible profile data (e.g., name and profile picture). Which personal data is publicly visible in the user profile depends on the profile settings, which can be customized in the settings of the social media platform itself. As part of running our social media pages, we process the mentioned data for the purpose of providing information about us and our products and communicating with our followers.
Our customer support additionally checks on a regular basis whether comments or other interactions on our social media pages infringe applicable law or the relevant community guidelines and delete infringing comments if necessary.
The social media platforms also provide us with anonymized usage statistics (known as analytics services or page insight data) based on the actions and interactions of our followers (e.g., likes, shares, comments, number of followers, page views by area, reach of a post and statistics about followers by age, language, origin or interests, advertisement performance). These statistics help us to stay in touch with our followers and fans, understand the usage and reach of our posts, evaluate content, and identify usage preferences and design our social media pages to be as targeted as possible.
We also use these anonymized usage statistics to deliver targeted interest-based advertising on the social media platforms we use or to promote our posts. The provision of interest-based advertising and promotion of posts on the social media platforms we use is based on an analysis of the user’s past usage behavior by the relevant social media platform, and we are not able to view the personal data of individual users, combine such personal data with other personal data we process, or identify the users to whom interest-based advertising is provided.
Legal Basis
Our social media presences are intended to ensure the broadest possible presence on the internet. This is a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. The analysis processes initiated by the social networks may be based on different legal bases to be specified by the operators of the social networks (e.g., consent within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR).
Responsibility and assertion of rights
When one of our social media sites (e.g., Facebook), is visited, we are responsible, together with the operator of the social media platform, for the data processing operations triggered during the visit. The rights of data subjects (information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability and withdraw the data protection declaration of consent) can generally be exercised both against us and against the operator of the respective social media portal (e.g., Facebook).
Please note that despite the joint responsibility with the social media operators, we do not have full influence on the data processing operations of the social media portals. Our options are determined by the company policy of the respective provider.
Storage time
The data collected directly from us via social media presence will be deleted from our systems as soon as we are requested to delete it, person concerned revoke consent to store it, or the purpose for storing the data no longer applies. Stored cookies remain on the device until they are deleted. Mandatory statutory provisions – in particular, retention periods – remain unaffected.
We have no influence on the duration of the storage of personal data stored by the operators of the social networks for their own purposes. To find out more, please refer to the information provided by the operators of the respective social networks (e.g., in their privacy policy, see below).
Disclosure of personal data
In the context of providing and managing our social media pages, we work with service providers (e.g., IT service providers, advertising agencies, and social media management tools), who help us create our posts, edit, optimize our social media pages and communicate with our followers. Insofar as these service providers process personal data on our behalf, we have concluded data processing agreements with them in accordance with the requirements of Art. 28 GDPR, in which we commit him to protect the data of our customers and not to pass them on to third parties. We select our service providers with great care; they process personal data exclusively for the purpose of fulfilling their tasks; they are contractually bound to follow our instructions; they use suitable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data.
