Rodenstock sets benchmarks in international standardisation

Munich/Tokyo, October 2025 – Dr Stephan Trumm, who is responsible for standardisation work in the field of optics and devices at Rodenstock, has been honoured by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) with a special award – the ISO Award of Excellence. This award is presented to outstanding individuals who have made exceptional contributions to international standardisation and who have had a lasting impact on global standardisation.

As Senior Principal Innovation Optics and Standardisation, Dr Stephan Trumm is active on behalf of the lens manufacturer Rodenstock at DIN (German Institute for Standardisation) and ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation). He is regularly appointed to committees that develop requirements and documents, appointed as head of standardisation projects and elected as chair of overarching bodies.

As ophthalmic optics is a global industry, the standards that are important for Rodenstock are decided at an international level. Standards are developed by recognised experts and jointly adopted by the various interest groups. This often involves reconciling diverse ideas and interests. In addition to extensive technical expertise, this requires a high degree of diplomatic skill and the ability to find solutions that go beyond obvious demands.
