From precise eye measurement to true precision vision with biometric intelligence.

With B.I.G. VISION™, Rodenstock creates a paradigm shift in progressive lenses by taking into account the unique shape and size of each eye. By manufacturing lenses based on the individual data of the eye, spectacles are created that provide their wearer with the sharpest vision.

At Rodenstock, we determine the biometrics of the whole eye. This includes its length and several thousand data points in the eye – far beyond industry standards. With the help of these data sets an exact eye model is generated for each individual eye. All relevant biometric data flows directly into the lens production process - on this basis, we can calculate a lens that fits each individual person as perfectly as possible. This allows us to determine the center of sharp vision for each individual eye. And spectacle wearers benefit from the sharpest vision for every angle and every gaze, no matter where they look.

To underline the level of biometric precision Biometric Intelligent Glasses (B.I.G.) delivered thanks to exact eye measurements,
we now call them: B.I.G. EXACT.

Why Biometric Intelligent Glasses?

The key to understanding the breakthrough technology behind Biometric Intelligent Glasses starts with recognising that you don’t actually see with your eyes – you see with your brain.

  • Our vision consists of two subsystems that simultaneously work together with the brain: focus vision and peripheral vision. We use our peripheral vision to orientate ourselves and detect motion in our environment, while our focus vision moves to whatever point of interest the brain picks up on, no matter if it is near or far away. Based on this input, your brain then decides how to act on the information received. By crafting the lenses with biometric data, we ensure that both the focus and peripheral vision subsystems are supported by seamless transitions in the lenses.

  • Eye movement is continuous. In fact, the human eye moves up to 250,000 times a day. This means our vision is constantly in a dynamic state, focusing at near, mid and far distances while we use our peripheral vision to orientate ourselves as the eye moves.
This is why it’s so important that progressive lenses support vision at every angle – and not just at one focus point in the middle. But, in order for them to do that, you need precise data on the individual eye – because every eye is different.
