Default values fit only 2% of eyes
Today, most lenses are manufactured using a standard vision test with just four standard prescription values as input for the lens calculation process. In this case standard values taken from the reduced eye model are used for the biometrics of the individual eye.
These standard values suit only 2% of eyes. This has consequences for how precisely the lens can be tailored to the needs of the user’s eyes.
Biometrically exact lenses
At Rodenstock, we recognize that each eye has a different shape and size.
Based on an eye measurement with our DNEye® Scanner, the biometry of the entire eye is determined for the calculation of the lens (several thousand data points and a multitude of parameters of each eye). This biometric data is incorporated directly into the lens production process, which is unique in the industry. The result: the most precise lenses in the world, with the sharpest vision for every angle and every gaze.
We call these lenses B.I.G. EXACT®.
B.I.G. stands for Biometric Intelligent Glasses: these lenses marked the beginning of the biometric era at Rodenstock and B.I.G. VISION® FOR ALL has become our philosophy.
Six steps to your B.I.G. EXACT® lenses
- Measuring the individual eye with the DNEye® Scanner. A Rodenstock partner optician measures your eyes with the DNEye® Scanner, this only takes a few minutes.
- Measuring eye parameters. The eyes are measured to create an exact image that is used in the manufacturing process.
- Calculating biometric measurements of an individual eye. The optician sends the measurement data to Rodenstock, where patented calculation methods are used to create a comprehensive biometric data set for each eye.
- Constructing the biometric eye model. This data is used to produce a precise biometric model of each eye.
- Digital transfer of data to lens production. The exact biometric eye model is used in the lens calculation which is then digitally transferred to the lens during production. Each lens is customised according to the biometric parameters.
- Biometrically exact lenses.Within a few days after the initial consultation, the spectacle wearer receives the new glasses based on the exact biometric eye model.
Why Biometric Intelligent Glasses?
The key to understanding the breakthrough technology behind Biometric Intelligent Glasses starts with recognising that you don’t actually see with your eyes – you see with your brain.
Our vision consists of two subsystems that simultaneously work together with the brain: focus vision and peripheral vision.
We use our peripheral vision to orientate ourselves and detect motion in our environment, while our focus vision moves to whatever point of interest the brain picks up on, no matter if it is near or far away. Based on this input, your brain then decides how to act on the information received.
By crafting the lenses with biometric data, we ensure that both the focus and peripheral vision subsystems are supported by seamless transitions in the lenses.
Eye movement is continuous. In fact, the human eye moves up to 250,000 times a day. This means our vision is constantly in a dynamic state, focusing at near, mid and far distances while we use our peripheral vision to orientate ourselves as the eye moves.
This is why it’s so important that progressive lenses support vision at every angle – and not just at one focus point in the middle. But, in order for them to do that, you need precise data on the individual eye – because every eye is different.
Biometrically exact lenses based on DNEye® technology provide an unrestricted, dynamic and natural visual experience, in harmony with the brain.
What wearers of biometrically exact lenses say
A survey of 283 customers, 90% of whom already wore glasses, shows the enormous success of B.I.G. EXACT®. It demonstrates that the use of an accurate biometric eye model to produce individual glasses significantly improved their visual experience.
92 percent experienced sharper vision than before.*
88 percent noticed greater visual comfort compared to their old glasses.*
84 percent experienced better contrast vision.*
80 percent experienced improved vision at dusk.*
87 percent experienced reduced adaption time.**
Our vision: biometrically optimized vision
At Rodenstock, we recognize people as individuals, with eyes of different shapes and sizes. That's why we use thousands of data points to measure and determine the parameters of the eye.
We use this data to produce the lenses customised according to the biometric parameters of each individual eye. This has made us the lens experts we are today.
Our ambition that we at Rodenstock have had since the launch of our B.I.G. VISION™ philosophy: Learn more about Rodenstock's journey to biometric precision.
AI-based lens calculation
We are not satisfied with the standard, but always go one step further.
Our claim is to produce the best lenses for people all over the world.
A new Rodenstock AI technology makes it possible to take approximate biometric values into account when calculating lenses. This ensures a high level of biometric precision, even if exact values from the DNEye® Scanner are not available. With this AI technology, we are creating a new standard in the calculation of conventional lenses.
We call these new lenses: B.I.G. NORM®.
