Porsche Design Celebrates 40 Years of Engineered Luxury
The spectacles from Porsche Design are legendary.
Yoko Ono caused an international sensation in 1979 with the
P'8479 shield sunglasses in the sporty 80s look, when
the cult model wore them for the first time at a press
conference. The artist was seen later on various record and
magazine covers. In the meantime, the frame is a sought after
accessory among design enthusiasts, and is also known as the
Yoko Ono spectacles. The P'8480 fold-up spectacles
with an innovative folding mechanism had similar success in
1980. The pilot spectacles can be folded up in no time at all
making them practical and space-saving. A true classic and one
of the world's most successful sunglasses are the
P'8478 "Exclusive Spectacles", which
were developed in 1978 and whose design has remained unchanged
to this day. Porsche Design is now presenting a very special,
exclusive model of the cult sunglasses as well as two other
limited special editions for its 40th
anniversary.
The Spectacles of the
Stars The focus is on the legendary Porsche
Design P'8478 sunglasses with the innovative
replaceable lens mechanism. The classic is very popular
especially among celebrities around the globe. Jennifer Lopez,
Kim Kardashian, Boris Becker, David Beckham and Brad Pitt are
professing wearers of the timeless aviator sunglasses. The model
will be issued in an exclusive special edition on the occasion
of the anniversary of the luxury brand. They are made of
sandblasted titanium in matt silver-grey combined with brown,
silver-mirrored, progressive tint lenses in the typical
seventies look. A 40Y laser emblem - For 40 Years - on the
bridge and the inner side of the right side make the special
model unmistakable. The number of P'8478 sunglasses is
limited to 10,000, and they are available in the four sizes S,
M, L, and XL. The Classics for the
Anniversary On the occasion of the 40th anniversary,
Porsche Design is also presenting two exquisite
collector's boxes with exclusive items for devotees.
The "40Y of Innovation" box contains the
P'8480 Y, P'8418 Y and P'8494 Y
sunglasses in addition to the legendary P'8478 in
special anniversary colouring. The number of boxes is limited to
1972 to match the founding year of the brand. Another
anniversary edition is the "40Y of Iconic
Products" box. It contains two very special Porsche
Design success models, the world's first sunglasses
with replaceable lenses, the P'8478 in the special 40Y
