The Future of Lens Consulting has Already Started

In October 2010, Rodenstock became the first manufacturer worldwide to issue an iPad app for lens consulting in the optician retail market. Rodenstock is expecting around 2,500 downloads of the applications by the end of January. The application, which has been successfully launched in more than 50 countries, gives opticians a new dimension of modern customer consulting. Whether simple single-vision lenses or individual progressive lenses, the application vividly shows the differences and benefits of different Rodenstock products, and supports the sales discussion using the latest standards of modern technology.

Maintaining a General View
With the clearly organised program, it is possible to compare lenses to each other and demonstrate the differences on the iPad. The parameters that are relevant to selecting a lens such as the pupil distance, corneal vertex distance, frame tilt and bow angle are easy to enter and can be changed as needed. The application can also be started in six different languages.

Easy selling
The easy presentation and handling support the optician to lead the sales discussion in a vivid and end-user-friendly way, and make it possible to sell high-quality products more easily and with less effort. At the same time, the application can be used anywhere and in any consulting situation, thanks to the wireless iPad. Optician Klaus Ziegler from Optik Röhrig in Weilheim talks about using the new Rodenstock app: "The program is very useful. It makes it possible for me to explain complex relationships to my customers in a very easy and understandable way. In the field of lenses in particular, it is very important to display competence and innovation-oriented thinking using such tools as well. That builds trust and very specifically helps the sale of high-quality lenses."

It is undisputed that the iPad has ushered in a new generation of computers. Working with the stylish tablet from Apple is child's play, the handling is intuitive and there are innumerable possible uses. Timo Scherf, Head of Corporate Product Management Lenses at Rodenstock: “We are happy to be the first manufacturer to offer our customers such a consulting application. Besides conventional promotional sales material, the demand for mobile consulting programs is increasing. Our claim here as well is to always be at the state of the art and give our customers the best possible support.”
