The Revolution of the Individual Progressive Lens
Rodenstock presents an absolute world premier at
the opti 2011 – EyeLT, the innovation for better vision. The
pioneer of individual lenses has taken that which was considered
technically infeasible so far and now made it possible through
intensive research and development work: two different
cylindrical refraction values for distance and near vision in
one individual progressive lens. Hence, Rodenstock
underscores its role as an innovation leader once again and
makes it possible for astigmatic people who wear spectacles with
progressive lenses to have perfect correction in the distance
and close up for the first
time.
Technical Limits
Overcome Even now, Rodenstock is the
world's market leader in individual, high-end progressive
lenses and, thanks to Individual Lens Technology (ILT), it is
the only manufacturer to make it possible for opticians to
freely vary the design of the lens according to the personal
visual habits of the person wearing the spectacles. And now
Rodenstock is going one step further – and thereby ringing in a
new era. By launching the EyeModel, Rodenstock is expanding the
ILT into the EyeLT and supplementing its unique technological
pillars with the precise physiological description of the vision
process during the transition from distance to near
vision. From an optometric and physiological
perspective, there has been a desire for a long time to realise
the astigmatic close-up effect independently of the distance
correction in a progressive lens. With EyeLT, Listing's Law
for close range, the adjustment astigmatism and, on request, the
individual, measured near refraction will be taken into
consideration in the individual progressive lenses from
Rodenstock. What the textbooks considered to be technically
infeasible is now possible. The future of the next generation of
individual progressive lenses has started with the
EyeLT.
Making the Impossible
Possible With the new EyeLT, Rodenstock is
presenting a one-of-a-kind world premiere. For the first time,
different cylinder strengths and axial positions for the
distance and close up can be implemented in one progressive
lens. As a forerunner in the field of individually
calculated and online-optimised progressive lenses, thanks to
the unique optimization method, Rodenstock has once again
decisively improved and refined its optimisation process for
this. In combination with the high-precision 3D freeform
technology, these complex progressive lens surfaces can now be
calculated and manufactured for the first time. Taking
Listing's Law into consideration for the near range – the
change of the axis through the torsional movement of the eye
during convergence – as well as the adjustment astigmatism in
one progressive lens opens up completely new possibilities in
caring for astigmatic persons who wear spectacles with
progressive lenses. Hence, Rodenstock has disproved the textbook
opinion that has applied thus far and set another milestone in
the history of lens development.
In
three steps to success: from ILT to EyeLT As
soon as March 2011, individual progressive lenses from the
Impression® product family will be calculated based on EyeModel
Step 1: In addition to the data acquired from the distance
refraction, individual parameters, visual habits and addition,
the adjustment astigmatism and Listing's Law for the close
range will also be taken into consideration and used in the
calculation of the physiologically correct near refraction
values. Nothing changes in the optician's work procedure
and there is no additional time involved. However, the customer
will get considerably improved and larger visual areas up close
through the improved and physiologically correct calculation and
optimisation of the intermediate and near ranges. Performance
increases of up to 25% in the near range are thereby achievable.
In the next step, EyeModel step 2, an
individually measured near refraction can be specified as well
if need be. The near refraction values are communicated to
Rodenstock together with the classical refraction data,
individual parameters, design data for Impression FreeSign®, and
the centring data. The best-possible and largest near
vision ranges are made possible by taking into consideration the
individually determined near refraction values. The clearer the
difference between the values of the distance refraction and
those of the near refraction, the greater the effect on the
visual areas in the near range. Here, the performance in near
vision can be increased once again by up to an impressive
40%.
In a third step, Rodenstock will also
offer a method for high-precision measurement of the eye with an
appropriate measuring device. The measured values of the eye
will then be fed into the calculation and optimisation of
individual lenses in a completely new way. This
comprehensive concept for better vision will become the
benchmark for the best optometric care for spectacles wearers.
EyeModel Step 1 will be launched in March
2011 worldwide for Impression® progressive and near comfort
lenses. EyeModel Step 2 will be added in 2011 for markets with a
high affinity for high end lens designs. The third step will be
available in the markets with high optometric potential as of
2012.
Decoding Near Vision:
Pioneer work in the best sense of the
word "Our claim is to help people get
the best-possible vision with individual solutions – and to help
our customers to get the best products in the market. We have
succeeded at doing so with this development," says Gregor
Esser (Manager Basic Research Optics), who is the responsible
project manager for the development of the Rodenstock EyeLT. The
benefits are obvious to opticians. Their core competence, i.e.
the subjective refraction, is strengthened so that they can sell
higher quality lenses without a great deal of additional effort.
Their customers will be much more satisfied at the same time.
This is because it is possible for the first time for a person
who wears spectacles with progressive lenses to also have
complete correction in the near range, thanks to the EyeModel.
The visual areas in the near range will become noticeably
larger. The result will be significantly better for almost
one-quarter of the spectacles wearers. Therefore, EyeLT quite
simply means: See better.
