Frequently asked questions about sports eyewear

I have a sight defect and would like to wear sports eyewear during sports. Is there a suitable solution for this?
Rodenstock's ProAct® sports eyewear (in the lightly arched frame version) allows glazing in all prescriptions. The special Sport lens range from Rodenstock means that even highly arched frames and clip-ins can now be ideally glazed with single vision lenses or progressive lenses. The Sport lenses are made individually for you and are available in a very great variety of colours.

Why do I need special sports lenses?
Sports eyewear has a frame geometry which makes very high demands on the lenses. The great tilting of the sports lenses creates optical distortion which restricts vision quality. To nevertheless provide unrestricted vision during sports, we use Sport lenses in which the individual parameters of the wearer are taken into account during manufacture - from the interpupillary distance to the frame shape.

Can all sports eyewear be glazed?
Yes, in general. Your optician will be pleased to advise you to find the best solution for you.

What Sport lenses are available in the Rodenstock range?
Rodenstock can offer single-vision lenses and - uniquely - individual progressive lenses in its Sport lens range. All Sport lenses are available in three versions:
• For very arched frames
• For sports frames with ”clip-ins”
• For lightly arched frames.
Your optician can provide expert advice and information on all aspects of sports and prescription eyewear.

Can I select any lens colour for my sports eyewear?
The Rodenstock Sport range includes an extensive range of colours you can choose from. At no extra cost. . Your optician will help you select the right tint for your sport.

Will I also be able to read with the Rodenstock progressive lens "Impression® Sport"?
Impression® Sport lenses have been developed especially for sports activities. This means that the near zone has been designed for a reading distance of around 60 cm, for example to read a pulse watch, a map or even a menu when hiking, or a speedometer, etc.
For reading outside a sports context, we recommend Rodenstock Nexyma 40.

I have heard that it takes some time to get used to sports eyewear. What does that actually mean?
It means that the eye needs time to adapt to the new situation when the new eyewear is put on. This can result in different visual impressions for a brief time. However, the eye is generally capable of adapting quickly to new demands.

Will my statutory health insurance pay for Rodenstock Sport lenses?
Unfortunately, no.

Can I insure my Rodenstock Sport lenses?
Yes. Rodenstock Sport lenses can be insured against damage, theft and breakage.

What effect do the so-called "SunContrast" lenses have?
SunContrast Sport lenses clearly enhance the contrast between light and dark areas. You can see colours and details very naturally and you can also recognise bumps in the ground (e.g. when skiing) a lot more easily. The 100% UVA and UVB protection gives you additional security.
