The first driving glasses with TÜV certificate

Munich, January 2017. In a user test by TÜV Rheinland, the progressive lens specifically for drivers, Rodenstock Impression® Road 2, was examined in detail and more than met the requirements for certification with a determined user acceptance of 1.7. This makes Rodenstock the first lens manufacturer worldwide to offer TÜV-certified driving lenses, which received the “Easy to use and user-tested” rating from an independent centre. This is an unbeatable sales argument for opticians, because 86% of consumers would pay more for a product if it has been certified by TÜV^3.

Rodenstock Impression® Road 2 – tested and passed
For almost 150 years, TÜV Rheinland has been guaranteeing safety and quality as an independent global organisation.
In a user test by TÜV Rheinland, the Impression® Road 2 progressive lens was tested and its performance confirmed in an impressive way with an overall rating of 1.7. To opticians, the TÜV certificate is an unbeatable sales argument, because almost 98% of Germans know TÜV^1 and to 63%, a test certificate is important in their buying decisions2. During the course of the user test, the Impression® Road 2 was tested with regard to criteria that are crucial for safe driving: acclimatisation period, field of vision, glare, contrasts, colour reproduction and cleaning.

In the practical test, the acclimatisation period as well as specific fields of vision were tested such as, for example, vision at all distances without deliberate head movements, perception of the cockpit and mirror as well as vision when parking. Glare, e.g. from reflections, traffic or the sun, in daylight and darkness, sun and rain was equally a test criterion as was the recognition of contrasts, e.g. from unlit objects at dusk. Colour reproduction, e.g. the perception of signal lights in different light conditions, and cleaning of the lenses were also aspects of the test. With user acceptance of 1.7, Impression® Road 2 met not only the requirements for certification, but it even exceeded them. Hence, Rodenstock Impression® Road 2 demonstrably improves vision whilst driving.

Extensive marketing support for opticians
Rodenstock supplements the existing, powerful marketing package with new materials on the topic of TÜV. Besides the advertising material classics that can be ordered using Rodenstock Net, such as decorative material for the display window, advertisements and mailings for new and regular customer marketing, Rodenstock supports the optician in addition with consulting tools including the new “Road Module” in the successful Virtual Consulting app.

The product benefits of Rodenstock Road
“Rodenstock Road” was successfully launched in the market in autumn 2016. These lenses, which are optimised specifically for driving, also ensure a better perspective on Germany’s roads even when visibility is difficult. They combine the following four Rodenstock technologies:

• Road Design: Rodenstock Road lenses provide particularly large visual zones, which have been optimised for quick shifts of focus.

• Solitaire® Protect Road 2: The new multifunctional finish is an intelligent combination of a premium antireflection coating and a slight 12% filter tint. It minimises reflections on the back side and unpleasant headlight glare, and ensures high-contrast vision – during the day as well.

• DNEye® and pupil-optimised correction: Rodenstock’s patented Eye Lens Technology, especially DNEye®, makes a major difference, especially when driving at night and ensures sharper and higher contrast vision.

• Individual effect optimisation: Optimally overlapping visual zones for the right and left eye support spatial vision and thereby simplify the estimation of distances, for example when passing or parking.

Perfect vision in everyday life as well

“Road” improves vision not only behind the wheel – the lenses have all the important qualities to be able to also be used as fully-fledged everyday spectacles.
